It’s time to rally together to present our petition to the BC government asking them to ban unnecessary singe-use plastics province wide. They’ve asked us what we thought, we’ve answered the survey, and now we rally present our petition and share our recommendations. Bring your signs, banners, voices, and all your friends. Let’s do this!

***We will be meeting at the Premiers Rose Garden on Menzies Street***

Surfrider Vancouver Island is co-hosting this event with Kids for a Plastic Free Canada – https://www.facebook.com/plasticfreekids/

Join us for our FIRST EVER combined shoreline and underwater cleanup!!! Surfrider will be handling the shoreline portion of the cleanup with the support of Surfrider Vancouver Island, the UVic SCUBA Club will be diving in the water to clean up debris, and the UVic SUP Club and UVic Kayak Club will be providing the divers with surface support, ferrying trash from the divers to the shore on their paddle boards and kayaks (how cool is that)!

The UVic Scuba Club will be providing divers for the event, but we also encourage members of the local diving community to join us as well!

Surfrider UVic encourages members and non-members, students and non-students, to attend the shoreline cleanup portion of the event.

We will have a table set up near the parking lot in Cadboro-Gyro Park where we will meet just before 11am (look for the blue Surfrider logo). Divers should be there a bit earlier to set up their gear and have a site debriefing.

Whole Foods is donating some tasty snacks for hungry beach cleaners.

**We are hoping to get some mesh dive bags but if you have your own please bring them! We provide bucket and/or reusable bags and gloves but feel free to bring your own if you can in case we run out.

Think Like A Fox: Intro to Sustainable Thinking Workshop

Learn how to connect with your immediate environment through a sustainable lens with Sadie, lead consultant and founder of The Sustainable Fox. The Sustainable Fox works to contribute to a more sustainable society by bridging the gap between the desire to operate with environmental sustainability in mind and the ability to do so. The company works with businesses to make sustainable actions the easiest choice within their spaces, with community groups on sustainable event planning, and with individuals to empower sustainable choices.

“This journey began for me several years ago with the Glass Jar Challenge. Ever since, the way I see and think, and how I make choices has changed drastically – along with the size of my trash bin. Living a sustainable low waste life is easy! Switching to a low waste life takes practice…A smaller footprint, say… a foxprint! That’s the goal.” – Sadie

Please join us at Coastline Surf & Sport on Tuesday, October 29 from 7-9PM. See you there!

SFVI chapter meetings are a great chance to meet new people, connect with others that have a shared passion, and learn about initiatives and projects within the community! Food will be provided, but please bring your own cup for beverages!
