Do you love surfing, beautiful images and art? At our March chapter meeting we’ll be watching the movie “Under an Arctic Sky” (more on film below). We’ll also have a brainstorm/discussion about a new project to use public art and images to inspire and engage people around clean oceans and beaches. The discussion will be led by Mia Lauzon, a local artist who uses art to inspire environmental action https://www.mialauzoncreations.com/this-aint-a-trash-story.
Under an Arctic Sky is a film project, by Chris Burkard, documenting the journey to the most remote corner of Iceland in the middle of winter in search of perfect surf. A few days in, the worst storm in twenty five years blows through and shuts down the country, turning the search for waves into a life-threatening prospect. Volunteers needed!! Everyone is welcome. Come enjoy some spring weather while making a difference in celebration of World Water Day.
The Gorge is a very popular waterway in our city and is subject to an amazing amount of pollution. Come help show pollution we are bigger and better than it by coming to collect litter, styrofoam, plastics, and other nonsense left by us humans.
Snacks and refreshments will be provided! Thank you to Atlas Junk Removal, LLC for their support!
Some reusable bags and gloves will be provided, but if you have your own please bring them! You may want to wear rubber boots or footwear you don’t mind getting wet/dirty.
*Meet at the end of Central Spur Road and the Galloping Goose Trail in Vic West.* The area we will be focusing on is between the footbridge and Harbour Road.
The great people at Atlas Junk Removal will be there to dispose of the treasure we find.
