STAND: A SUP Adventure Through The Great Bear Rainforest

“STAND” the new film from b4apres Media in association with Dendrite Studios will take you into the heart of the largest temperate rainforest on the planet—the Great Bear in British Columbia, Canada. Hung on the skeleton of a good ol’ fashioned adventure undertaken by a group of surfers, the potential effects of introducing super tankers to these pristine waters will be articulated. As the crew moves through this remote region under their own power, the landscape will be unfurled one paddle stroke at a time and punctuated by the faces and fears of the First Nation people who call this garden of Eden their home. Not just an efficient mode of transport, a stand up paddleboard expedition will be symbolic of “standing up” to preserve this last bastion of rainforest. Captured in cinematic High Definition, the film will bring the Enbridge Pipeline debate into the collective consciousness in a way that will have you fishing in your basement for that old fluorescent wetsuit.

IndieGoGo Crowdfunding Campaign

b4apres has launched an innovative indiegogo.com campaign to raise funding for production of the film. Indiegogo.com is a popular crowdfunding platform that allows audiences to pledge different amounts of money towards creative projects to help make them a reality. In return backers receive various rewards for their donation. Perhaps most significantly, backers of STAND become part of the production team.

Supporting STAND is easy. Backers simply choose their reward and pledge via credit card or PayPal. Some of our awesome rewards include a cedar paddleboard handmade by the children of Bella Bella and the opportunity to join the crew on the expedition.

http://www.indiegogo.com/stand-film?a=504701

Why We Need Funding

All funds raised will go towards production costs including travel expenses, music rights, post production, etc. We already have all the equipment necessary to shoot and edit the film, meaning all funds raised will be used to finish this film so others can discover this pristine part of the world for themselves. This is a passion project with everybody involved being extremely committed to the preservation of wild places.

b4apres Media is a collective of vibrant characters eager for an avenue to express their artistic flair in a meaningful way whilst experiencing the times in which we live. Our vision is to bring together talented individuals who share a common aim to creatively merge adventure with honest journalism.

The contest is strictly for fun and for the enjoyment of surfing with friends. The competition starts at 7:30 am at China Beach (first parking lot) with the first heat beginning at 7:30 am sharp. Men’s and Women’s divisions will …surf together and surfers may enter of any age and any surfboard shape or size. This is a family friendly event so please feel free to bring your kids!

In this years Wave Hunt we have decided to have a strong environmental emphasis for which require all contestants to have a 2012 Surfrider membership along with a $20 entry fee (which goes towards the prizes) to enter. There will be en event at HtO before the contest (date still to be decided) where you will be able to get your 2012 SR membership and register for the comp. You must pay and register prior to the event to compete. This contest is completely non-profit and purely for fun.

Five person heats will commence with a 5-minute paddle-out and 30-40 minutes to surf. There is no wave limit and the competitors must return to the beach when the flag is up and their heat is over. There will be two quick blasts from the air-horn indicating when 5 minutes are left in your heat. The next heat then paddles out but stays on the shoulder until one long blast is heard from the air horn indicating that the heat is over and that the next heat has begun. At this point the previous heat must belly ride or paddle back to the beach. Dropping in or any other misconduct will result in the highest wave being removed from the final score of the individual.

All the surfing will be filmed and viewed Monday evening. This will be at Mcraes starting 7:30 and there will be lots of prizes. Plus it is wing night!

The event is run as an ‘expression session’ or unconventional surf contest. All and only the contestants will judge the waves and determine the victor. Rides will be given points on the following criteria:

Height of Wave
Length of Ride
Amount of Maneuvers
